What is a hybrid OR? New to CoxHealth is a hybrid operating room, located at Cox Medical Center South. both surgical and interventional approaches that they wouldn't be able to do otherwise. "The hybrid OR combines the capabilities of a fully equipped operating room with an angiography suite," explains Dr. J. Randolph Mullins, vascular surgeon. Procedures performed in this operating room include aortic and thoracic stent grafting, balloon angioplasties to repair aneurysms and clear blockages, placing and removing cardiac devices, such as a pacemaker, and TAVR. TAVR is a minimally invasive heart valve replacement procedure that requires the advanced imaging capabilities of a hybrid OR. It provides new options for vascular and cardiac patients who need complex surgeries. According to Dr. Mullins, the high quality of imaging in the hybrid OR offers the ability to do procedures that require Dr. Mullins: "The capabilities of this room are incredible."
