WORLD FENCE NEWS • AUGUST 2013 • Fence Industry Week coming up this fall The American Fence Association announced that its educational Fence Industry Week will be held Oct. 27Nov. 8 in Dallas. The location and additional details will be forthcoming. Fence Industry Week will include: • Operator Installer School (Oct. 27-Nov. 2) • Certified Automated Gate Operator Installer (CAGOI) exam (Nov. 1) • Certified Automated Gate Systems Designer (CAGSD) School (Nov. 2-3) • CAGSD exam (Nov. 3) • Sales Training School (Nov. 3-5) • Fence Installation School (Nov. 3-8) • Certified Fence Professional (CFP) exam (Nov. 6) The AFA Fence Installation School will offer all eight of the core modules as well as the chain link and ornamental specialty disciplines for the first time. The School is designed to teach professional and standards- and best practices-based installation to new and less-experienced fencers. It also provides training for more seasoned professionals who want to review the basics and assure that their installations are based on current standards and best practices. In addition, Fence Installation School will prepare students for AFA's new Certified Installer certification by offering the pre-requisite core fencing installation modules in the 4-1/2-day program. Fence Installation School's instructors are highly experienced fence installers specifically trained to teach the Certified Installer curriculum. Each expert installer is receptive to students' ideas and questions. The instructor will assure that the instruction offers real-world, hands-on experience. The cost of the Fence Installation School tuition is $1,599 for employees of AFA members ($2,399 for nonmembers) and is broken down as follows: $1,100 for tuition which includes campus transportation during school hours; take-away job aids; classroom and hands-on instruction; workbook, certificate and hard hat; and $499 for hotel accommodations and food. Mr. Hartsell was born in Charlotte on July 7, 1944. Surviving are his wife, Delores Hartsell; children, Renae Shehane (Bill) and Michelle Broome; g r a n d c h i l d r e n , Bobby Hartsell Bobby Ray Hartsell, III, Samuel Austin Broome, Benjamin Ray Broome; Colby Adam Broome, William Shehane, III, and Briana Grace Shehane; sisters, Louise Benton, Rachel Noles, Ann Plexico, Faye Hartsell Lee, and Kay Buchanan; a brother, Ricky Hartsell; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hartsell was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Clinton and Margaret Helms Hartsell; sisters, infant sister, Grace Hartsell and Sue Moore; and brothers, Clinton, Vance and Clarence Hartsell. Greater Chicago Chapter AFA slates golf tourney The Greater Chicago Chapter of the American Fence Association (AFA) will host its annual golf outing at Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, Ill. on September 5, 2013. Attendees can participate in friendly golf challenges sprinkled throughout the course while admiring the scenic views of the countryside resort. The event will commence with a 10 a.m. shotgun start and consist of several contests, including a longest drive contest, a longest putt contest and a $10,000 hole-in-one prize on a select par 3 hole. Participants may sign up individually for $130 or receive a team rate of $460 for four golfers. The round will be followed by an awards dinner.
