I DA U N I V E R S A L J a n u a r y - Fe b r u a r y 2 0 2 3 4 EDITOR'S NOTES Tiff any Cabral Executive Director/Editor 2023 IDA CONVENTION AND TRADE SHOW September 19-22 Renaissance Glendale Hotel & Spa Phoenix, Arizona I n the last issue of the Universal, my editor's note focused on the success of our past convention and a new initiative called Hoshin Kanri. To recap, this initia- tive is a lean approach used for strategic company-wide improvements. For more infor- mation on what Hoshin Kanri Initiatives are refer to the NOV/ DEC Issue of the Universal. For IDA this means: 1) IDA's key goals. a) Building membership - in turn increasing your vendors and customers b) Increasing membership value 2) Play catch. is term is used to describe the concept of throwing ideas back and forth. is was illus- trated during our round table discussion at the general session last month. 3) Get your gemba on! Gemba refers to hit the ground running with an action plan and tracking your success. Getting my Gemba on! 4) Make adjustments as needed. Getting my gemba on! anks to the eff orts of Bill Mirth with IPD and IDA Board Member, IDA scored a guest pass to HDAW '23 this past month right in our own backyard! is event proved to be quite fortu- itous and provided me with a lot of insight into the other parts of the industry. Although HDAW is geared toward on highway and automotive a ermarket parts, I learned there is quite a bit of crossover within our members. I was able to talk to many long- term IDA members, Eurori- cambi, KMP USA, and ProDiesel just to name a few. ey were able to share some insight into the crossover between the two industries giving me an advan- tage in talking to and recruiting possible new members. With my new knowl- edge, I hit the tradeshow fl oor scouting. My eff orts proved to be successful in turn solidi- fying relationships with current members, brought back old members and even landed a couple of new ones. I was also able to forge relationships with other Executive Directors of similar associations and "played catch" (#2 in the Hoshin Kanri Initiative) in getting ideas to apply to our association. Although it is too early to share some of the ideas I have chosen to pursue, I assure you that prioritizing our members is key! My guarantee to the member- ship is that you will continue to see improvement, updates and added value to the IDA. I encourage you to continue your support and in return I will give 110% toward this association. As always, I encourage you to spread the word about IDA membership, share your stories with us so that we can share them on social media and in our publications. Most importantly become involved in your associa- tion because at it very core, IDA is about YOU!
