rates during that time and to try their
talked-about Jackie Rey's 'Da Best' Mai Tai
on the island, along with their Hawaiian
Margarita, which is their house margarita
with a shot of lilikoi, shaken over ice.
Yum!! The walk was a lot farther than we
contemplated and we walked a good mile
and a half uphill to get to the restaurant.
Probably consider driving next time.
But it definitely was a great sight-seeing
experience. We enjoyed a "Happy Hour"
Mai Tai and a Hawaiian Margarita,
along with the best clam chowder soup
we have ever had and a lemongrass
Caesar salad (an island spin on an Italian
classic), followed by fantastic half-priced
local grass-fed burgers. Wow! Lots of
great food at a reduced happy hour price.
Afterwards, we made the walk back
which was a little easier, since it was all
downhill instead of a steep elevated walk.
Makani Golf Club – A True Hawaiian
Golf Experience & Local Favorite
The next morning, we were up bright
and early to get ready for our second
day of golf! The course we were
playing, Makani Golf Club, was about
a 40-minute drive heading northeast
towards the center of the island. Arriving
quite a bit before our tee time of 11am,
we checked into the pro-shop area, and
headed to our golf cart as the starter was
super friendly and let us tee off early.
Makani Golf Course is a local favorite,
which we can see why. The course was
designed to perfectly fit into the natural
environment of the island and create a
truly wonderful Hawaiian golf experience.
The diverse landscape and natural
terrain has been left undisturbed as much
as possible to create this unique and
memorable 18-hole golf course experience
above the historic Kohala Coast.
