Asian longhorned beetle As a generalist pest, ALB poses a great potential threat to eastern forests. Burning firewood where you buy it is critical to stopping the spread of this pest. Last spring, the USA-NPN released an updated Pheno Forecast for ALB in collaboration with researchers at USDA. The new fore- cast product offers several enhancements: • Forecasts display the percentage of adults that have emerged, from first emergence, to 25% of adults emerged, 50%, and 75% or more. • Forecasts are available for the entire country, and also denote states where detections have been reported. This includes South Carolina where ALB was first reported in 2020. Pheno Forecast map for ALB for May 20, 2024. Colors indicate the status of adult emergence. The status of a location is determined by comparing local degree–day accumulations to an established degree-day accumulation threshold for the life-cycle stage.
