News & Notes American Central Transport's Robert Phillips Is Highway Hero Robert Phillips, a contractor with American Central Transport (ACT), was commended for coming to the aid of some fellow travelers during a recent rainstorm. While traveling in his rig near Walnut, Mississippi, Phillips witnessed a vehicle in the distance do a roll over, turning upside down and landing in a ditch. He quickly notified the Mississippi Highway Patrol, slowed his vehicle and turned around to come to the aid of an elderly couple who were trapped in their car. Phillips and another passerby managed to pull the husband out through his window and stayed with the wife and saw to her comfort until help arrived. The story was posted on ACT's Facebook page and quickly received over 757,620 'Likes' and 39,166 'Shares' as of the date of this writing. Comments included thank you messages from the elderly couple's son, grandchildren and one of the responding officers. ACT is a dry van truckload carrier serving the eastern half of the United States. Founded in 1926 as E.K. Motor Service, the company was later renamed after it was purchased by the Kretsinger family, who still run it today. ACT has been frequently recognized for its quality and premium service, signified by its "Raising the Standard" motto.
