Luckily, we keep the cabin well stocked and even though the pump froze up, we were able to melt snow for our water needs. Adding to the list of woes is the fact that my cell phone no longer works at the cabin. It used to work, but Mr. Murphy contacted the local cell carrier and they decided to change ownership and frequencies at the all the cell towers in area. Nobody had any cell service. Just a little more icing on the frosty cake of my existence! And when we got back home, the answering machine and the email were full of messages from worried friends and family, including my mother. (You know you've been out of touch for too long when an 88-year old mom is leading the search and rescue efforts.) In the end, it all worked out for the best. Upon my return home, I called mom to tell her we were OK and called the mechanic. Ol' Red had finally been properly fixed and the clutch pedal was working as the engineers intended. So, I have my Jeep back, which is a good thing. This winter is a harsh one and the four-wheel drive capability of Ol' Red is already coming in handy. Yep, the old Jeep rattles, is cold and uncomfortable, but it sure beats the cushy seats and warm comfort of the Escort when the snow is two feet deep and the roads are dicey.
