19 Gallery Night & Day kicks off spring GALLERY NIGHT & DAY this month is Milwaukee's two-day premier art event for both the experienced art connoisseur and beginning admirer. The nationally acclaimed art event held quarterly is set for April 25-26 and features 49 venues to explore throughout downtown Milwaukee. Park at a reduced rate in the Historic Third Ward parking structures at 212 N. Milwaukee St. and 225 E. Chicago St. Pay just $5 from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Saturday. Catch a ride on one of two free Friday Gallery Night Xpress routes Friday only from 5-9 p.m. Board the East Town/Historic Third Ward Route at 212 N. Milwaukee St. (parking structure), Pfister Hotel and 225 E. Chicago St. (parking structure). Board the Harley-Davidson Museum Route at 225 E. Chicago St. (parking structure), Young & Erie St (Catalano Square), Iron Horse Hotel and the Harley-Davidson Museum Gallery Night and Day hours are 5-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit historicthirdward.org. On the east side of downtown Milwaukee, the DAVID BARNETT GALLERY, 1024 E. State St. (at Prospect Ave.) features works by Sylvia Spicuzza, daughter of noted painter Francesco Spicuzza. She produced a magnificent body of work undiscovered until her death. Rich and diverse, a fascinating collection of drawings, watercolors, paintings and prints from the 1920s to the 1990s. At the MILWAUKEE MARRIOTT DOWNTOWN, 625 N. Milwaukee St., the color and vibrancy of Mags Hobbs' abstract landscapes were inspired originally by her English childhood. The artist finds the same inspiration in the broad sweep of Wisconsin's lakes and farmlands. In the Historic Third Ward, TORY FOLLIARD GALLERY, 233 N. Milwaukee St., features contemporary still life. The still life has been a major theme of artists for centuries and continues to be relevant today. Contemporary, fresh, traditional and experimental, this exhibit includes the Midwest's best painters and sculptors. KATIE GINGRASS GALLERY, 207 E. Buffalo St., features From Heaven to Earth - the transcendence of clay. This group show of nationally acclaimed ceramic artists depicts a wide scope of ceramic interpretation. Divergent firing techniques and media effect a variety of results. From functional pottery to abstract porcelain sculpture, the exhibit explores the connection between divine inspiration and common clay.
