S pecialty Coee Retailer was at Coee Fest New York at the Jacob Javits Center in March, which gave us the chance to catch up with three exhibitors who were showcasing their products to attendees. Here's what those vendors had to say about their companies, brand positioning and the show in general. GIORGIO COOKIE COMPANY "We are a gourmet cookie and biscotti company from Ohio. e company itself has been around about 15 years but is now under new management. We're all- natural and made-to-order, so we don't do anything in advance. We focus mainly on biscotti for wholesale straight to coee shops. "New to us, we have individually-wrapped biscotti now. We still oer the unwrapped version because it looks more homemade and customers enjoy the organic look of it. We're all-natural so we use unbleached our and Belgian chocolate. "We're getting ready to introduce a new seasonal avor: white chocolate lemon pistachio. We're also getting ready to introduce the Coee House Collection, so we'll have some new avors with that as well. Our top seller right now is salted caramel, so you can't go wrong with that avor. "e show has been great. is is our fourth time here - second time in New York, and we're glad to be back." THETA RIDGE COFFEE "eta Ridge has been around for over 16 years. We started with just Kenyans—we have a direct relationship with a farmer there, and we've invested in his farm. We soon realized that customers wanted more than just Kenyan and now we're diversied and in a number of other countries: Peru, Colombia, Brazil and Nicaragua. "We have a lot of direct relationships. It's what we like because I'm paying the farmer directly and the farmer is sending the coee directly to us. It's huge because then you're helping that local economy rather than working with a huge conglomerate. "e show has been great. It's Sunday and the rst two days were fantastic. It's good and exciting; there seems to be a new vibe around the show. People are coming by and looking for green coee and it's been great. "We have a new decaf coee, which is made from a derivative of sugarcane. at's strictly Colombian. We also have a new coee from Galapagos, which came in since I've been here at the show so I haven't even gotten a chance to try it yet." STRAW PROPELLER GOURMET FOODS "We are just over two years old and we manufacturer gourmet oatmeal and muesli cereal in to-go containers. It's fast, healthy, easy and on-the-go. "We don't have any new products to announce yet, but we have een avors. ree are museli and the rest are the gourmet oatmeal. In the oatmeal, apple crisp is our best seller, but in places like Korea PB&J is very popular. "It's been a good show and we've enjoyed being on the east coast. It's been great for us."
