Its active ingredients are chemical compounds extracted from a newly discovered bacterium, Burkholderia spp. strain A396. Venerate has multiple modes of action and a low potential for insect resistance, according to Marrone Bio Innovations, which manufactures the product. It is labeled for use on many crops, both conventional and organic. The number of applications allowed per season is unlimited. Fine Blush F ine Americas has announced reg- istration of its new plant growth regulator Blush (prohydrojasmon) to promote red color in bicolored apple varieties. Prohydrojasmon is a synthetically produced jasmonate, a plant hormone that helps de-green apples and pro- mote color by enhancing accumulation of anthocyanins, according to Fine Amer- icas. Anthocyanins are red pigments that are in a class of molecules called flavonoids, which are antioxidants. Fine Americas is a subsidiary of Fine Holdings Ltd. of Worcester, England. ReTain registered V alent USA has announced that its ReTain (aminoethoxyvinyl- glycine) plant growth regulator was registered in California for improving cherry fruit set. ReTain, which was already registered for apple, pear, and stone fruit in California, is designed to increase fruit set by extending the pollination window. It delays ethylene produc- tion in cherry flowers, extending their viability by one to three days and increasing the opportunity for successful pollination and fertiliza- tion, according to the company. It is most effective on difficult-to-set varieties, such as Brooks, Coral Champagne, and Chelan and on other varieties during poor pollinating conditions. ProMaxa has dual use P oMaxa, a growth regulator from Valent BioSciences Corpora- tion, has been registered in California for crop load management in apples and pears. The active ingredient is 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). Used in the spring, the auxin-based product enhances the thinning effect of MaxCel (benzyladenine). Applied in the fall, it extends the harvest management period that ReTain (amino ethoxy- vinyl glycine) provides for apple and pear growers in California by maintaining fruit firmness and preventing fruit drop. Drammatic fertilizer D rammatic is an organic plant food derived from fish scraps from the Great Lakes. According to the manufacturer, the Dramm Cor- poration of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, it supplies plants with nitrogen and potassium for optimal plant growth. Recipients are: Apolinar Blanco and Jesus Rodri- guez of Chelan; Drew Carleton of Manson; Miranda Cleveland of Okanogan; and Jamie Wilson and Amber Monroe of Tonasket. Hamilton Farm Equipment of Okanogan, Washing- ton, created the foundation in 1992 as a way of giving back to the agricultural community it serves. The foun- dation continued after Hamilton Farm Equipment merged with Washington Tractor in 2012. Funding for the foundation comes from a fixed percentage of Washington Tractor sales. Scholarships are one of several ways that the foundation helps to educate, support, and promote youth in the region who are involved in agriculture and natural resource endeavors.
