SECURITY SYSTEMS NEWS JUNE 2011 www.securitysystemsnews.com COMMERCIAL & SYSTEMS INTEGRATORS 21 Pro-Tec service offering positions it for future Partner plan puts a Pro-Tec service tech at a customer site for several hours, a day, week or month Continued from page 18 It saves the clients money, helps Pro-Tec develop consultative rela- tionships with their customers, and encourages customers to take care of any issues before they become emergencies, Hagen said. Often, the client may want advice about adding a camera, or a ballpark budget number for some upgrade, for example. “We’re right there and our people know how to respond to those questions.” Pro-Tec proactively approaches its customers about these agree- ments. “If we see someone spend- ing $4,000 to $5,000 per year aggregate for T&M work, we know they are a good candidate to buy a block of time,” he said. In addition, Pro-Tec offers a web site, called Technical Service Engine (TSE), for customers with maintenance or partner agree- ments. TSE enables customers to request, track and see a variety of performance metrics reports on service calls. Pro-Tec Design began the expan- sion of its service offerings about Bureau Continued from page 18 Ladd said that many companies provide the same types of solu- tions, “but they do standalone, independent, multiple data- bases. With our approach we integrated everything together, so there’s one solution, one software so my operators can respond to clients’ needs fast and efficiently.” The launch of weProtect took place late last fall and “the integration took six- to eight months to complete before that,” he said. As with most commer- cial integrators, 2009 was a tough year for The Protection Bureau. At the end of 2010, the company was “well ahead of 2009 and down about 8 or 9 percent in revenue from 2008,” he said. This year, however, “we’re tracking ahead in revenue and about even in profit.” While there are more rev- enues, there are decreased margins, he explained. It’s the RMR associated with the new managed services offering that’s making up the difference. While many integrators “never saw the value of RMR ... we’ve known that from the alarm portion of our business and we’ve tied it into our integrated services.” SSN Advertiser “Many things clients want done aren’t emergencies, yet they are important to accomplish on a timely basis. If they know that someone is coming in on Tuesday ... they can keep a to-do list.” —Tom Hagen, Pro-Tec Design four years ago, at the same time it decided to migrate to IP video. While both investments were costly and coincided a year or two later with the economic downturn, Hagen said he’s pleased the company decided to hang in there. “We had a lot of chips on the table,” he said. “But now it’s turning out very well for us ... we’re better positioned for growth and so far it looks like we’re on course.” SSN It’s the all-in-one megapixel solution… for all.
