GALERIE PIERRE MARIE GIRAUD Recently back from Tokyo for the opening of the Ritsue Mishima ret- rospective at the Shiseido Foundation, Pierre Giraud shares with us his gallery’s current focus on Japanese ceramic and glass. “I am very involved in contemporary production. My focus in on Japan right now, many interesting things and some great artists like Akiyama Yo, Yoshiro Kimura or Fukumoto Fuku in ceramic and Rit- sue Mishima in Glass. In particular, I think there will be great inter- est in a very beautiful “sword vase” by Yoshiro Kimura and a fantastic ceramic piece by Takayuki Sakiyama.” An exhibition view of work by Ritsue Mishima at the Brussels gallery. PRIVEEKOLLEKTIE CONTEMPORARY ART | DESIGN Before opening the gallery in 2006, Irving and Miriam van Dijk collected art and design. Their personal approach and depth of knowledge has helped Priveekollektie Contemporary Art and Design to become one of the leading galleries for limited-edition design in Europe. We asked Miriam van Dijk to share a bit about the work of the young Dutch designer Reinier Bosch, who will be showing a new hanging cabinet in their booth this year. “From his graduation at Design Academy Eindhoven onwards, we've followed the development of Reinier Bosch. We included him a group exhibition in 2008 which featured photographs of his travels pulled from his personal inspiration book/diary. That first work made a lasting impression on us and has positioned Reinier as a unique young designer with a poetic ap- proach to conceptual design.” Sleeping Ericius dome light by Rolf Sachs Pond by Reinier Bosch “I believe that the design focus will go back to the 80s. This is the period where the contemporary design/art movement started, with designers like the fantastic Alchimia group, Alessandro Guerriero and Alessandro Mendini. Without their intellectual input, I believe we would not have the attention on design that we have now. I started in the late 80s to work with these pioneers and we are preparing a show on Alchimia next Spring.”—Gabrielle Ammann GABRIELLE AMMANN GALLERY CULTURED 43
