From left: Studio Juju’s AT Lamp, Stacking Drums; pieces from the Wobble and Mushroom series; below, Priscilla Lui and Timo Wong. Studio Juju For Studio Juju partners Timo Wong and Priscilla Lui, an abundance of prototypes and a fine-tuned process of trial and error are crucial in cre- ating pieces sensitively crafted around user interaction. Nothing makes it past their own tactile tests: “We make very good judgment with the aid of the physical models instead of sketching the same thing over and over again,” says Wong. Inanimate objects come to life in both name and function, with careful obscurities of form that provide an intriguing element of dis- covery and play. The Rabbit Table dips to varying heights, blurring the boundaries between seat and surface, while the single, flat-armed Platypus chair allows for less restricted seating positions and offers a generous nook to lean or rest upon. “A common goal we have for every project is to be able to engage users emotionally through interaction,” they note. “The creation of new experiences is important for us every time we start to work on a project. It can be through the form, con- struction or even colors that we use and how people feel and interact with them at the end of the day.” CULTURED 47
