News & Notes 28 // OWNER OPERATOR // AUGUST 2014 Dometic Launches BliZZard Battery- Operated Air Conditioner for Trucks Dometic Group, a global provider of comfort products for the trucking in- dustry, recently launched the Dometic Split-System BliZZard 134a, a battery- operated air conditioning unit for trucks. The BliZZard air conditioning system is a highly e f f i c i e n t a u x i l - iary A/C unit that a l l o w s t r u c k - ers to cool their s l e e p e r c a b s w i t h o u t r u n n i n g the truck e n g i n e . T h e most quiet and efficient unit of its kind, the BliZZard is simple to install, and provides 10+ hours of cooling. "For any trucker, a good night's sleep is invaluable. This air conditioner provides hours of quiet, energy-efficient comfort. It is simple to install, with a smart digital thermostat that ensures precise temperature control and optimal operation," said James Kerrigan, VP of OEM Sales in Dometic's Commercial and Passenger Vehicle divi- sion. "At the same time, the BliZZard is made of heavy duty materials that are vi- bration and corrosion resistant." Available in 7,000 and 10,000 BTU mod- els, the battery-powered split system allows the noise of the condenser unit to remain outside while the quieter evaporator unit blows cool air to the cab's interior. Made in the USA, the BliZZard is SmartWay and EPA certified. It uses environmentally safe and commonly available R134a refrigerant With a very small foot- print relative to cooling capacity, the Split-System B l i Z Z a r d A/C unit re- quires mini- mal instal- lation space and its flex- ible refriger- ant line sets require mini- mal holes in the cab floor or panels. Units and line sets are pre-charged, and refrigerant line con- nections made with no-leak quick-connect fittings, allowing for easier and faster in- stallation. Easily accessible external service ports provide quick and easy service access if needed with use of existing equipment. The Split-System BliZZard is also avail- able with optional electric heat to pro- vide heated comfort without running
