ISA Conference Recap
The 90
th
International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Annual Conference
was held Aug. 2-6 in Milwaukee. From education to networking to the trade
show to the International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC), the event
held plenty of opportunities for industry professionals. Some highlights
include the following:
International Tree Climbing Championship
The ITCC was held August 2 and 3 in Milwaukee, and brought together
professional tree climbers from 20 countries (57 competitors in all) to
compete for the title of World Champion.
Scott Forrest of New Zealand won his third title as Men's World Champion.
2014 was the seventh international competition for Forrest, who previously
won the title in 2011 and 2013.
Women's champion Josephine Hedger of the United Kingdom was
competing for the sixth time. Hedger is also a three-time winner, having
claimed the title in 2008 and 2010.
ISA Board of Directors
Incoming directors for the 2014-15 ISA Board of Directors were announced.
They are as follows:
• Anne Beard, system forester for the Public Service Company of New
Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M.
• John Gathright of Seto, Aichi, Japan, founder of the Japan Arborist
Association, Japan Arborist Training Institute, Tree Climbing Japan and
TreeHab.
• Scott Prophett, Loganville, Ga., president of North American Training
Solutions.
• Don Winsett, vice president of national business development for
The Davey Tree Expert Company, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Their fellow members on the 2014-15 ISA Board of Directors include
Mark Roberts (president), de Gourét Litchfi eld (president elect), Paul Ries
(vice president), Michael Marshall (treasurer), Michelle Mitchell (secretary),
Jim Skiera (executive director), Pedro Mendes Castro, Francesco Ferrini, Paul
Johnson, Brian Kane and Brian Phelan.
Awards of Distinction
During the opening ceremony, ISA also announced the winners of the 2014
Awards of Distinction. They are as follows:
