New Vendor Awards N 1. EW BLOOD DRIVES OPPORTUNITY AND INNOVATION IN ANY INDUSTRY. FUEL OIL NEWS CREATED ITS NEW VENDOR Awards to highlight companies that are fresh entrants in providing new products and services to our industry. These companies have seen a need and feel that they can provide fuel dealers and marketers with their version of a better “mouse- trap.” The criterion used to identify these companies is participation as a new exhibitor at one of the major, industry focused trade shows dur- ing the year. This year, those shows were the Atlantic Regional Energy Expo and the National Association of Oil Heat Service Managers (now National Association of Oil & Energy Service Professionals) and the New England Fuel Institute. The FON New Vendor Awards will be pre- sented in three classes, as available each year: 2. 3. Fuel Handling and Storage. These com- panies provide solutions relative to the fuel products and include: bulk plants; trucks, truck tanks and truck equip- ment; additives and filters, etc.; and home oil tanks. Heating Appliances and Combustion Technologies. These companies pro- vide boilers; furnaces; hot water heaters; solar and other alternative solutions; hydronic solutions; warm air solutions; and burners and combustion compo- nents. Business Solutions. These are typically home office and operational solutions. They would include back office software vendors; accounting and other profes- sional service providers; environmental service providers; business forms and related; and HR solutions. The winners were selected by a panel of four judges, with a range of industry expe- rience and perspective. This year’s panel: 12 Charles Bursey began working for an oil company in Jamestown, RI in 1963 after he was discharged from the military. He worked in service management for a number of companies. He currently works for industry manufacturer F.W. Webb, Warwick, R.I., and serves as a Fuel Oil News service columnist. Cernak Fuel of Easthampton, MA is a heating oil and diesel fuel dealer serving the Pioneer Valley. Founded in 1935, the company is now owned and managed by the brother-sister team of Rick Cernak and Leslie Cernak. Both judged our entries. The Cernaks look forward to new technologies and their efficiencies for continued success. Nella Mills-Mahoney joined her fam- ily’s oil company, Abbott & Mills Energy in 1980. She has held positions as a file clerk, CSR, service dispatcher, service department manager and currently as the company’s general manager. Nella has been a featured speaker for the Petroleum Marketers Association of America and the New England Fuel Institute. Nella is cur- rently Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Valley Oil Heat Council.
