CULTURED 57 18 Abruzzo Bodziak Architects has joined forces with the Clinton Global Initiative America for a new project, aptly called Grow A Lot. The plan is to take vacant spaces in low-income neighborhoods (communities that typically have limited access to fresh food), and fill them with design-forward hydroponic greenhouses. A prototype for the project is currently being built in a Brooklyn, with hopes of expanding to cities across the United States. abruzzo-bodziak.com The prototype for the Grow A Lot greenhouse project in Brooklyn Quentin Jones, It-Girl illustrator and filmmaker is in demand. From Smythson to Chanel, the London-based daughter of architect Edward Jones has lent her hand to countless brands, publications and fashion houses, and this November, collaborates with Robert Storey on an exhibition at The Vinyl Factory in London. Here, Jones shares a bit about what's influenced her work, from "Fantasia" to Gabriel Garciá Márquez. Who has been the greatest influence on you artistically? I've always been into surreal artists—whether it's a collage artist like Hannah Höch, a Disney cartoon like "Fantasia" or a book by Gabriel Garciá Márquez. I'm inspired by magic and the unexpected; it makes me feel childishly happy. When did you develop your signature style? I think I'm still developing, or hopefully it is evolving. I started using quick-fire brush marks and montaged images as soon as I left college. Partly out of impatience—wanting to work quickly, so ideas can come to life in seconds—and partly because I love the aesthetic of taking things that don't belong together and bringing out an exciting contrast with them. How were you first discovered? I think it was a bunch of people and events that all came together at once, but shortly after graduating Jaime Perlman, AnOther Magazine and Chanel all gave me a chance. —Tali Jaffe Quentin Jones, created Blinded by the Candy (left) for a Maison Martin Margiela exhibition in London at SHOWstudio Shop in 2013. 19 LO-FI LADY PHOTO BY JAMES A GRANT (JONES); COURTESY ABRUZZO BODZIAK ARCHITECTS
