JESSICA MORGAN Artistic Director, Gwangju Biennale Tastemaker and curator Jessica Morgan of Tate Modern in London directed the 10th Gwangju Biennale, one of Asia's most eminent art events. The biennial, titled "Burning Down the House," which ran from September 5 to November 9, featured more than 100 artists from 35 countries and examined ideas of destruction, renewal, transformation and hope. The South Korean event featured many established artists including Jeremy Diller and Urs Fischer, but also gave voice to a new generation of artists paving their way in a crowded art market. Morgan spent time stateside at Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art as its chief curator before joining Tate in 2002. Appointed as Tate Modern's curator of international art in 2010, she specializes in the acquisition of contemporary art in emerging markets such as Morocco, Iran and Bangladesh. In January, Morgan returns to the U.S. to start her new role as director of Dia Art Foundation in New York.
