EQUIPMENT FOCUS Aerial Lifts Genie S-45 Trax Genie launched the S-45 Trax, a boom lift that provides the performance needed on various tree trimming work sites. The height, articulating jib and the Trax system allow arborists to reach locations that are otherwise difficult to access. The Trax system allows the boom to operate in areas with soft or sensitive ground conditions without causing surface damage. JLG X550AJ JLG's X550AJ compact crawler boom features a 55-foot working height, 21-foot horizontal reach, and platform capacity of 440 pounds. The boom's design includes a tracked wheel carriage that climbs steps; as well as a narrow chassis for access through gates, yards, standard doorways and public buildings. Due to its low gross vehicle weight (GVW), the X550AAJ can be set up on sensitive flooring and landscaping. With a low GVW, compact dimensions, rubber tracks, remote drive, and adjustable track widths for increased stability during transport, the X550AJ is highly maneuverable and fits on a trailer or tilt-back truck for increased ease of transport. The X550AJ is environmentally friendly, with dual power onboard — gas, diesel or electric engine accompanied by an electric AC motor. All of these features come standard in order to reduce noise and emissions in public spaces. For ease of operation, the X550AJ has one-touch outrigger leveling, interactive display and operator-friendly controls. EQUIPMENT FOCUS MLE PM40i electrically insulated custom boom lift Electrically insulated lifts are used where electrocution hazards exist. These can be utilized where bucket trucks are currently used, but provide the capability of driving when the bucket is elevated, and can be moved more easily around plants and construction sites. Important features of the PM40i include: • Two-section articulated elevating boom • Fiberglass insulated upper boom and parallel arm, rated and tested to 67kV, Category C • 355-degree turret rotation with swing lock pin for transport • Double acting hydraulic hoist cylinder with load holding valve • Payload capacity, 300 pounds at boom tip • Payload capacity, 100 pounds at jib crane • Payload Capacity, 774 pounds distributed along booms Terex offers new weight-reduced hydraulic lift option Terex Utilities announced 2 new weight-reduced hydraulic lift options for Terex Hi-Ranger aerial devices. Compared to traditional lifts, these lifts are engineered with higher-strength, lower-weight materials. This option provides faster operating speeds for quick cycle times, and reduces fuel consumption for project cost savings. New for the tree-trimming market, Terex offers a new transverse-mounted hydraulic lift for XT Series over- center aerial devices. This 10-foot lift is weight reduced to be used on a 12,000-pound front-axle chassis, and is an available option on Terex XT55, XT60, XT55/65 and XT60/70 models. Terex also offers weight-reduced 25- foot hydraulic lifts for its X Series aerial devices, including the side-mount XML and HRX overcenter material handling models and the TCX end- mount non-overcenter material handling models. The cycle times of the X Series hydraulic lift achieved a 60-second, or 22 percent, speed improvement and a 1,600-lb weight reduction over traditional 25-ft hydraulic lifts. www.greenmediaonline.com/productportal www.arborage.com Arbor Age / November/December 2011 19 For more information about any of these products, and more, visit
