GAO favors removing the scores from public view until FMCSA can shore up its data quality problems. – James Jaillet A U.S. sen- ator who re- cently vowed to introduce legislation to reform the Federal Motor Car- rier Safety Administra- tion wrote a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx questioning the purpose of FMCSA's QCMobile smart- phone app release. In her letter last month, U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) took aim at FMCSA's Compliance, Safety, Accountability pro- gram and QCMobile's role in making CSA's percentile rankings more accessible to third parties and the public. The app was released just a day after Fischer said she intended to produce legis- lation to reform FMCSA, citing problems with CSA as part of the reason. Fischer references in her letter a 2014 report from the Government Accountability Office that found FMCSA does not have enough data or enough quality data to produce accurate or com- plete rankings for carriers. "So as not to misinform the public, it is my hope that FMCSA will remove inaccurate SMS scores from QCMobile and provide disclaimers regarding proper interpretation of the data," Fischer writes. Fischer is not the only one to question the app's release. The American Trucking As- Senator chastises DOT over CSA app Carrier CSA snap- shots are available via search in the QCMobile app.
