For Safety's Sake By Matt Cole 34 // OWNER OPERATOR // AUGUST 2015 Kenworth recalling more than 100,000 vehicles, Pete a few thousand The following are three recalls issued by PACCAR at the beginning of summer: 1) More than 100,000 Kenworth trucks are being recalled for possible water leaks into the windshield wiper motor, possibly caus- ing the wipers to stop working. The water may also cause corrosion that could result in an electrical short. Model year 2011-2016 Kenworth 963, T270, T370, T440, T470, C500, C540, C550, T680, T800 and W900 models man- ufactured from Nov. 1, 2010, to April 7, 2015, are affected by the recall. 2) Paccar says during assembly, some 2016 Kenworth models did not undergo the rear wheel mounting torque verifi- cation process. The rear wheels could be loose and separate from the truck. Certain Kenworth T660, T680, T800 and W900 trucks manufactured be- tween Feb. 1, 2015, and April 20, 2015, are includ- ed in this recall. 3) Approximately 1,500 trucks are includ- ed in a recall of trucks equipped with the Paccar MX-13 engines and Delco-Remy 40SI alternators. The alternator charge cables may chafe against a formed metal freon discharge line, which could cause an electrical short resulting in a fire. Included in the recall are 2014-2016 Ken- worth T660, T680, T880 trucks manufac- tured from Feb. 18, 2013 to April 10, 2015, and 2011-2016 Peterbilt 386, 389, 567, 579 and 587 trucks manufactured from Dec. 13, 2010, to April 20, 2015.
