F or the third year in a row, Sadler Power Train has been named a fi nalist for the Truck Parts & Service Dis- tributor of the Year award. And also for the third year in row, President John Sadler says he was positively blindsided when he heard the news. "I have to be honest, when I fi rst heard I was a little set back by it. A little stunned. It's such a great, great honor and we are just so appreciative," he says of the recognition. When asked how his com- pany keeps rising to the top, Sadler immediately points to his employees. "You have to see all of the great people I get to work with every day," he says. "To see how hard they work for this company and the great ideas they come up with for this company is amazing." The latter, he says, is evident by Sadler Power Train's expansion in the past year. In an era where indepen- dent parts and service facili- ties are slowly moving away from engine work, Sadler Power Train is strengthening its engine product knowl- edge. The company has added a multitude of engine component product lines and is expanding its engine service capabilities across its locations. Sadler says the moves have corresponded to a growing number of engine experts on the company's staff. "We've hired some people that have a lot of experience in that business," he says. "They've added a depth of understanding of that business that we didn't have before … [and] when you have people that have knowl- edge and expertise within a product line, then that line can really work." And the company has grown in other part cat- egories as well. Sadler cites turbochargers, engine start modules and maintenance tools as other product cat- egories new to the business in 2015. In each case, Sadler Power Train's employees have responded to that growth by actively learning about the products, and then using their new expertise to help pro- mote them to customers. The latter has been espe- cially rewarding, says Sadler. Regarding engine com- ponents and turbochargers, "We've told customers for 40 years we didn't have that and now we do. Now we can give them that part they've been asking for," he says. The infl uence of Sadler Power Train's staff also is evident in how it educates customers. The company regularly welcomes suppliers for onsite training courses, and Sadler says the company's in-house product experts are generous in teaching and training. And Sadler says that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the SPT team. Even as the man in charge, Sadler says he is consistently amazed by the commitment of his employees and their dedica- tion to the business and their customers. "All of the growth and sales and success we have is the ac- cumulation of the hard work of the individuals we have here," Sadler says. "And I'm eternally grateful."
