46 DECEMBER 2015 | FUEL OIL NEWS | www.fueloilnews.com Fuel Oil News celebrated its 80th Anniversary in 2015. As we finish this year and move into the next, we will highlight some of the sup- pliers serving the industry with their histories, where they are today and moving into the future. BOSTON STEEL/DIV. OF TREMCAR USA Boston Steel & Mfg. Co. "Boston" has now joined forces with Tremcar USA in a marriage opening up endless new markets and possibilities to better serve our ever expanding customer base for years to come. Increased production, more modern systems and techniques and the ability to provide new products, such as trailers for all applications, are just a few things provided by this joining of two well respected family businesses. David and Ronald Burke, who continue to be part of the company, are now joined by the Tremcar's Tremblay family; father Jacques, son, Daniel and daughter Annie. Incorporated in 1915, Boston Steel was purchased by Lawrence Burke with a partner during the depression and was turned into a successful company, with Burke assuming sole ownership in the 1940's. This was as oil/kerosene was replacing coal as the fuel of choice for home heating. In the "early days", tanks carried about 500 gallons and had a rear opening that was used to store five gallon "cans" or "buckets" used to deliver the product to the home. Hence the commonly used terms in mod- ern times of "canbox" or "bucket box" to describe the rear reel and meter area of modern truck tanks. Ronald Burke joined the business in 1965 after exiting the Navy followed by his brother David in 1972. Before joining with Tremcar USA, Boston Steel had gone from a company of the original 3 employees to 65 and from a New England and northeast market to nationwide and even overseas. Boston Steel/Tremcar USA will continue to custom design and build each tank to meet the customers' usage and desires, no matter what size. In addition, with the marriage with Tremcar, Boston looks forward to building stock units for the fuel dealer in immediate need not wanting to be forced to buy a product and brand they don't want under stress. SCULLY SIGNAL COMPANY Eighty years ago, Scully Signal Company, founded by Francis P. Scully, joined this industry in making fuel oil the fuel of choice. The first product was the Ventalarm® Signal, an ingenious device which eliminated the need to enter the home and prevented spills. It is still sold today as part of a complete delivery system including delivery nozzles, flow controls, gauges and tight fill connectors designed to improve efficiency and safety. The Scully family has a long history of innovation and dedication. In 1842, James Scully founded the Scully Construction Company which later developed the first steel interlocking sheet piling and rotating cement trucks. The family was instrumental in the com- mercial development of Boston and surrounding communities. In the 1960's, under the direction of Francis and his sons Francis Jr. and Robert, the Scully Signal product line expanded to self- checking electronic systems for petroleum transport and storage operations. Today, led by his son Robert G. Scully, Scully Signal Company is still a family owned engineering and manufacturing business specializing in fuel oil delivery systems as well as overfill prevention, ground proving and vehicle identification systems for loading operations through the world. Scully products are made in the U.S.A., recognized for their reliability and safety and backed by a team of sales and service professionals.
