Minot Convention & Visitors Bureau • (800) 264-2626 • (701) 857-8206 BIRDING North Dakota's most sought-after avian species can be spotted in the Minot area. Look for Ferruginous Hawk, Gray Partridge, Sharp-tailed Grouse, Yellow Rail, Piping Plover, Sprague's Pipit, Baird's Sparrow, Le Conte's Sparrow, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow and the Chestnut-collared Longspur. Good bird-watching areas include the Riverwalk path along the Souris River in Minot and the Square Lake Sewage Lagoon, as well as these five nearby wildlife refuges: HUNTING & FISHING Take a shot and throw out a line within an easy drive of Minot, where you can find public and private land in fields, forests and wetlands. Minot and the surrounding area has a reputation among outdoor adventurers that is legendary, from world-class walleye and perch fishing to unbeatable upland game, waterfowl and big-game hunting. We are right along one of North America's primary corridors for waterfowl migration, making this one of the nation's best places to hunt Canada Geese and Snow Geese. Minot is also located near plenty of stocked fisheries including Lake Sakakawea, one of America's largest man-made reservoirs and walleye angling hot spots. In Minot, two fishing piers are located at Roosevelt Park and one each at Riverside Park, the Water Treatment Plant and near the Jack Hoeven Baseball Complex. For more information on fisheries and public hunting lands, as well as licensing and regulations, visit North Dakota Game and Fish at gf.nd.gov.
