S am Tyler, CPI, tries to make it to the NGWA Groundwater Expo and Annual Meeting every year. He says it's a great experience every time. The 2015 edition of the groundwater industry's largest event didn't leave him disappointed. Tyler, owner of Tyler Well & Pump Inc. in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, took full advantage of the more than 50 workshops and technical sessions pre- sented by industry experts. He notes the 2015 workshops were interesting. Held December 15-17 in Las Vegas for the second consecutive year, a total attendance of 4886 came to the Expo from all sectors of the groundwater in- dustry—water well contractors, manu- facturers, suppliers, and scientists and engineers. The 67th Expo ranks 10th all-time in attendance. Attendees hailed from 30 different nations, in addition to the United States. "We used the event's later week as a motivator to our efforts," says NGWA Chief Executive Officer Kevin McCray, CAE. "Our sales team worked hard to bring more than 300 exhibitors to the floor, and our marketing team worked hard to get customers to the show floor. Another year of outstanding continuing education options from our Learning and Knowledge staff added to the up- beat mix." Among the workshops Tyler learned much from included "Aquifer Storage and Recovery" presented by Daniel B. Stephens, Ph.D., PG. "The speaker spoke a lot about how the water being injected can have an effect on the water chemistry in the aquifer," Tyler says. "I was amazed as to how effective the process is but also on the complexity." Tyler, who has now attended nine Expos, heard Peter S. Cartwright, PE, present "Compromised Water Quality— Challenges and Solutions," which fo- cused on all the different contaminants that can be found in well water and different ways to remove them. A water treatment professional him- self, Tyler also took in David T. Han- son's "Diagnosing Common Well Problems." Hanson spoke about well re- habilitation methods and how different contaminants can plug well screens. "I liked how he kept the attendees smiling with his humor," Tyler says. "I paid close attention to his details on chemistry and how it needs to be correct and properly placed in the well in order for any well rehab project to work." The latest offerings from the ground- water industry were on display by the Expo's 304 exhibitors. Exhibitors occu- pied 78,200 square feet of exhibit hall space. There were 27 first-time exhib- itors, reflecting a strong interest in the industry. "There are almost no words to de- scribe how pleased and excited I am about the success of the 2015 Ground- water Expo," says Vickie Crosby, (Top) A road led nearly 5000 attendees into the exhibit hall at the 2015 NGWA Groundwater Expo and Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.
