Bill Abrams grew up in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania and worked at Towanda Country Club from age 12 doing everything possible. With a very promising basketball career during high school and college, a devastating knee injury cut short Bill's senior season at Lycoming College. Following graduation, Bill worked for Gannon Associates and decided golf was his true passion. After interviews with Bill McInerney PGA and Terry Russell PGA, he accepted a position at Lincolnshire Country Club. Moving to Chicago in 1991, Bill apprenticed under Jay Williams PGA and was named Head Golf Professional in January 1995. Bill remained at LCC until 1999 when he left to pursue his true passion of player instruction and coaching. Interested in opening his own golf academy, Bill approached longtime friend, David Mortell, with his idea. The Mortell family owned and operated Balmoral Woods in Crete, Illinois since 1975. Bill soon founded Golf Solutions Academy and made Balmoral Woods his home base. Bill provides professional golf instruction tailored to each golfer's needs, as well as professional equipment fitting. In the winter months, you can find Bill at Carolina Club in Margate, Florida. Most recently, Bill was named the 2015 Illinois PGA Professional of the Year. Presented annually since 1955, this prestigious award honors the working club professional whose total contributions to the game best exemplify the complete PGA Professional. Special emphasis is placed on performance and achievement over the past five years, or specifically in the following categories: overall performance as a PGA Professional at his/her facility, service to the Illinois PGA and the Association, leadership ability, image and ability to inspire fellow PGA Professionals, and the promotion of golf.
