CULTURED 93 19 20 Whitechapel Gallery has launched a major exhibition celebrating the Internet's influence on art over the past 50 years. "Electronic Superhighway," on view until May 15, showcases a mix of painting, film, sculpture and rarely seen multimedia work from 70 international artists including Douglas Coupland, Ulla Wiggen and Nam June Paik. Showcased in reverse chronological order from the present day, the works go back to historic pieces by Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T), a collective formed in 1966 that promoted the synthesis of art and new technology. whitechapelgallery.org More than 50 years after the Museum of Modern Art presented its wildly popular "Responsive Eye" exhibition of Op Art, New York's El Museo del Barrio restarts the dialogue, but this time with a Latin flair. "The Illusive Eye," on view through May 21, contrasts with prior exhibitions by focusing on Latin American artists, including Julio Le Parc, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Lygia Clark, as well as a number of international artists. elmuseo.org Eduardo Mac Entyre's Six Forms in Two Circumferences, 1966 COURTESY OF ©OLIVER LARIC, SEVENTEEN GALLERY, LONDON; FAMILIA MAC ENTYRE
