For his first project in
Russia, Rashid Johnson is
turning Moscow's Garage
Museum into a hothouse
from March 17 to August 31.
Blending Soviet Modernist
architecture with the
vegetation-covered
structures the artist
encountered in the Turks and
Caicos, Within Our Gates will
see Johnson create an
ecosystem in the atrium
composed of tropical plants
as well as sculptures, sound
and film. garagemca.org
Girl on Film
Pioneering feminist Ana Mendieta
is best known for her performance
and photo work, but through
March 26, Galerie Lelong will show
15 of the late Cuban-American
artist's films—including nine
never-seen works. They continue
her exploration of self-portraiture
and the female body—one depicts
an X-ray of the artist's skull, while
another, Butterfly, 1975, seen
here, superimposes a pair of
butterfly wings onto her back.
