There are a few Geneva Double Curtain (GDC)-inspired systems in Napa, where the vine trunks are trained high and there are quadri- lateral cordons on two horizontally placed fruiting wires, with shoots trained downward or in a sprawl, which were planted in the 1980s. However, most of the horizontally divided canopies in Napa are trel- lised on a Lyre-type system. The Lyre trellis system, which is similar to GDC but with canes trained up in two horizontally divided VSP cano- pies, requires a lot of infrastructure but offers better exposure to air- flow and sun than does GDC, there- by reducing disease pressure and improving ripening and uniformity. However, as with single-canopy VSP, sunburn and variability in ripen- ing from one side of the canopy to the other can still be a major issue. McMullen has seen the Lyre work well for sites with deeper A&J Vineyard Supply 707-963-5354 www.aj-vineyardsupply.com AgFast Corporation 909-464-1373 www.agfast.com Central Valley Builders Supply 707-261-7900 www.central-valley.com Finger Lakes Trellis Supply 315-904-4007 www.fingerlakestrellissupply.com Gripple 630-406-0600 www.gripple.com Jim's Supply Company 800-423-8016 www.jimssupply.com OESCO, Inc. 800-634-5557 www.oescoinc.com Orchard Valley Supply Inc. 888-755-0098 www.orchardvalleysupply.com PA Trellising Systems www.patrellising.com Spec Trellising 800-237-4594 www.spectrellising.com Vineyard Industry Products 800-544-2210 www.vinbiz.com Wilson Orchard and Vineyard Supply 509-453-9983 www.wilsonirr.com TRELLISING EQUIPMENT SUPPLIERS SOIL & CELLAR REMI COHEN
