WELCOME NOTE Welcome to Cultured. This issue, our fourth since 2010, marks our first with a cover subject. As in love as we all are with design and decora- tive arts, in general we felt that having a person on the cover elicits a response that an object—however amazing it may be— just can't. When we learned that Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, the gallerist, art advisor, independent curator, collector and gen- eral tastemaker, was bringing her gallery, Salon 94, to show for the first time at Design Miami/Basel, we knew we had found the perfect person to grace our cover. In Greenberg Rohatyn's intimate New York City gallery, standing beside a brand new Rick Owens chair and Betty Woodman ceramics (that she will be showing at the June fair), photographer Douglas Friedman cap- tured all of the dealer's intelligence and power for our cover. We hope you find it as evocative as we did. This year, Cultured makes its move to a quarterly publica- tion, which we believe speaks to the renewed interest in all things design. The cultural programming in Miami is as active as I have ever seen it in the 10 years I have lived here. Cultured will be your connection to all of this, from the inside track at De- sign Miami/ to new showrooms, cultural happenings, contem- porary designers and the personalities who are reshaping the city as we know it. We'll also bring you inspiring interiors, intel- ligent architecture and interviews with the creative talents be- hind them. And you can be sure that we'll continue to be drawn to the fashion-art-design crossovers, as these disciplines con- tinue to evolve together. Also in this issue we speak to Wang Shu, who just won the Pritzker Prize; Paul Goldberger, the leading voice in architecture criticism; Pearl Lam, China's mega-gallerist who just opened a new gallery in Hong Kong; as well as Gary Nader, Snarkitecture, Kyle DeWoody, Miranda Brooks and Olivia Putman. Finally, be on the lookout, as we are creating our own lec- ture series this fall to make our content truly multidimensional. And don't forget to subscribe to Cultured on our website, whitehausmediagroup.com, so you won't miss a thing. Carlos Suarez, Zaha Hadid and Sarah Harrelson. See you in September! Sarah G.
