in 1928 and was designed by the legendary team of William Langford and Theodore Moreau. Coming later in 1983, The Woodlands winds through dense stands of mature trees. From high above the countryside on the #3 tee, you get a panoramic view of Green Lake. An hour or so back to the northeast in Green Bay are the two courses of Thornberry Creek at Oneida golfthornberry.com, the official course of the Green Bay Packers. The LPGA Tour is making the Legends Championship Course an annual stop starting in 2017. And the 9-hole Iroquois is one of Wisconsin's official PGA Family courses. Travel all the way across the state to the Wisconsin-Minnesota border to play Troy Burne troyburne.com in Hudson. It's located in Wisconsin, but is considered one of the best in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. PGA Tour Pro Tom Lehman, John Fought, and Erin Hills' Hurdzan and Fry were responsible for this beauty. Smack dab in the middle of the state is Sentry- World sentryworld.com in Stevens Point. While famous for its par 3, 16th 'flower' hole (40,000 flowers), the entire course is spectacular, particularly after the recent redo by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. With its 'Better Billy Bunkers', infinity greens, stately pine trees, and immaculate conditions, SentryWorld deserves tour play. Nearby, Nekoosa is home to two courses, The Pines and The Lakes, of Lake Arrowhead lakearrowheadgolf.com. The former winds through stately pine trees; the latter is links style with lots of water. Alone, Lake Arrowhead is a golfer's paradise, coupled with the soon-to-open Sand Valley and you'll be in golf heaven. A few miles south in Arkdale is Northern Bay Resort's Castle Course northernbayresort.com, featuring seven 'replica' holes from such famous courses as Augusta National, TPC Sawgrass, Fires- tone, Oakland Hills, Oakmont, and Bay Hill. South to Wisconsin Dells is the rolling, tree-lined, and valley-laden Trappers Turn trappersturn.com, an Andy North and Roger Packard design featuring three championship nines: Arbor, Canyon, and Lakes. Also in the Dells is the stunning Wild Rock wildrockgolf.com, another masterpiece from Hurd- zan and Fry that has everything. In Madison, University Ridge universityridge.com is a tale of two nines. The Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design features a links style front nine and a nar- row, tree-lined back nine. It's on land where the Wisconsin Glacier stopped, producing rolling hills and valleys. Beginning this year (June 20-26), the course hosts the annual PGA Champions Tour American Family Insurance Championship. To the southeast in the Lake Geneva area, there are a number of must-plays, starting with Geneva National genevanationalresort.com. Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Lee Trevino each designed a course here. They all sit on the wooded slopes and shores of beautiful Lake Como. Next door are the two courses, The Brute and The Highlands, of the family resort, Grand Geneva grandgeneva.com. The Brute is exactly what the name implies - long with 68 bunkers and huge greens. The Highlands was originally designed by Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye. Conditions are immac- ulate, the people friendly and the golf memorable. Just up the road, also in Lake Geneva, is the Como Crossings course of Hawk's View hawksviewgolfclub.com. As the name implies, it has stunning views and elevation changes of up to 100 feet. It has it all: woods, water, sand, bent grass and a resort feel. Heading back toward Milwaukee along I-43 is Morningstar golfthestar.com in Waukesha. With spectacular holes and views, this gem was carved out of an old rock quarry. There are hundreds of other excellent courses throughout Wisconsin, but these are the stars that you can play. Enjoy the 2016 season.
