If I need to go home, I can tell them that. I don't go home very often, but if I need to take a day off, they don't have a prob- lem with it. Q: What do you think about the trucks and equipment Crete offers? A: The trucks are clean, and they have good power. Crete's maintenance staff is knowledgeable, and they get you in as soon as possible, but really that doesn't come up very often. We also have APUs in the trucks so we don't have to idle very much. Q: What do you do during your downtime? A: During my downtime on the road, I go for walks and try to explore what- ever city I'm in. A cab ride's $20, $30 at the most; there's no point in going across the country if you're not going to try to enjoy it. At home, I just like to spend quality time with my family. I'm one of seven siblings, and there's a lot of open des- ert around Yuma, so we go shooting a lot. I also love to fish when I can. Q: How do you stay healthy on the road? A: I have a little cooler in my truck. That helps me keep more fruits and vegetables. I try to go for a walk for at least an hour a day and try to watch my calorie intake. I also try to do some standing pushups against my truck every day. Q: As a member of the millennial generation, how do you feel about the trucking profession? A: I love it. I really do. I never real- ized how much of an impact it had until I got into it. We definitely need a lot more people my age coming in as a lot of the older drivers are retiring. I think it's a good fit for my generation. Many people my age are pretty mono- dimensional in their thinking, and that really can't apply out here. You have to take different views on things. Q: Do you see a career path with Crete? A: I honestly do. I enjoy Crete. The pay is good and I'm getting the miles I need, but more important than any of that is they've shown me loyalty and they've shown me respect. They've been extremely fair, and I prize that more than anything else when it comes down to whom I want to work for. Q: What about trucking is attrac- tive to younger drivers? A: I've got "Made in America" tattooed on my arm because I love this country with all my heart, and truck driving gives me the option to go around and see it – to experience different things and meet different people, see different cultures.
