Summary
The use of specific speed and the
suction specific speed for various
classes of pumps is a time-honored tra-
dition and an established method to
compare different types and groups of
pumps. Even if you don't use these defi-
nitions on a frequent basis, knowing the
derivation of each term and understand-
ing how each one relates to the unique
characteristics of pumps is an important
ability.
