president for PNC Wisconsin. He adds that the banking group's substantial multi-year financial commitment reflects PNC's desire to "support the economic growth and well-be - ing of the communities it serves." Ponteri points out that the 2015 marathon attracted pro- fessional runners from around the world in addition to runners from Milwaukee and other parts of the US. This year the mar- athon route, winding through almost all parts of the city, is basically the same, with only a few minor changes. "The Milwaukee marathon course is a beautiful combina- tion of city streets and park- ways, and includes several well- known landmarks as well as a diverse mix of neighborhoods," says Ponteri. "The entire 26.2- mile course stays in the City of Milwaukee." Broadening neighborhood outreach The PNC Milwaukee Running Festival's extensive commu- nity outreach program will be expanded this year to include parties along the route. "We're working with neighborhood groups and businesses to stage community parties during the race," explains Ponteri. The festival outreach again includes Kids Run Milwaukee, a partnership between the Milwau - kee Running Festival and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. This six-week program leads up to the Harley-Davidson Motor Company Mile Race on Nov. 5 and is designed to give kids an introduction to running and com- peting in a race. Eight Boys & Girls Clubs lo- cations in Milwaukee are part of the program. The Milwaukee Running Festival has provided two volunteer coaches for each location. The festival also has a Wheel - chair Division in the Half Mara- thon and 5k Race. myTEAM TRIUMPH is a non-profit athletic mentoring program for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabil- ities. The organization is fielding several teams in PNC Milwau- kee Running Festival events. Community outreach also comes in the form of volunteer staffing. The festival needs more than 1,000 volunteers for the two-day festival, includ- ing assistance at 18 water aid stations in Milwaukee neigh- borhoods along the marathon route.
