READERS RESPOND
How important is going green?
T
hroughout 2016, we asked readers of our email
newsletters (Cheers Weekly and Beverage
Dynamics Roundup) what they thought about
sustainable products and packaging, and the
movement in general. Our survey results show that
there's no national consensus on the importance of
showcasing sustainable wines, spirits and beers, nor
how consumers respond to those products.
Comments from retailers and operators ranged from
"Not really impacting our market," to "Sustainability is
a bigger trend in wine than in spirits." One respondent
said they would like to see bottle deposits on all glass
and plastic containers, and wished all beverage alcohol
products could be made more sustainably to reduce
environmental impact.
Here are some of the highlights from that survey.
