New and Inspiring If you are looking for something a little less technical and a little more inspiring, Water is for Fight- ing Over by John Fleck might meet your needs. Released earlier this year, the book chronicles the struggles of the Colorado River Basin, examining water issues of the past and present as well as solutions for the future. It looks at conflicts through the generations that have arisen from drought to flood and how policymakers and stakeholders dealt with the issues in the past and continue to solve them in the future. Many of these books can be purchased online, either through the NGWA Bookstore or Amazon. However, many are oldies but goodies and may be more difficult to acquire without the assistance of eBay or a trip to an estate sale. Either way, if you track them down, you'll be glad you did. These books are way more useful than another tie. NGWA Press has recently published two titles ideal for groundwater professionals wanting to stay up to date on the latest technologies and skills in the field. An Introduction to Water Well Hydrofracturing: A Form of Well Development and Cleaning by Allen E. Comeskey, CPG, and Stuart A. Smith, CGWP, is an update of a book originally published in 1989. It discusses the hydrofracturing method for well development and transmissivity enhancement, while also discussing how public water systems are using the method to enhance supply, goes over some state regulations, and discusses safety and sanitation. The Operational Stages of the Well, by Thomas M. Hanna, PG, Michael J. Schnieders, PG, PH-GW, and John H. Schnieders, Ph.D., CPC, details how well design, hydro- geology, operational history, water quality, rehabilitation history, and well usage play a complex role and impact operation and maintenance of well systems. The authors provide a method for identifying rehabilita- tion needs to be performed to ensure a long life for a well. Both titles are available for sale in the NGWA Bookstore at www.NGWA.org.
