which is both deep and broad and the result of his experience in the field and the conscious and continuous effort to keep up to date with the latest tech- nologies and practices. More than that, he has provided excellent guidance on operational issues related to the manage- ment part of being a service manager. T'S A SAD DAY AT THE MAGAZINE AS Columnist John Griffin submits his last article so he can get back to the
insight they deserve. My gut reaction because of his exceptional competence (and some selfishness over losing such an excellent columnist) was to dismiss that concern. But, that would disrespect the tremendous amount of hard work he put in to not only establish his reputation, but to maintain that level of excellence through time in the classroom and at convention sessions and in networking with his peers. After over four decades of such hard work, it's time for some well- earned relaxation. John's technical and operational com-
petencies are well-established, but what was as impressive for me from the editorial side was his ability to establish solid topics to cover for our readers that tied into the edit calendar or seasonal trends and his ability to convey the information in a clear, concise and entertaining manner. That is exceptionally rare and will truly be hard to replace. We're still working on that, though we have some interesting ideas under consideration. John, you were as professional in your
relationship with Fuel Oil News as you were in the rest of your career, and all of us here wish you the very best. You can read John's farewell column
