Tech Updates Clutch Lubrication Requirements For UltraShift Plus Transmission Th e release bearing zerk applies grease Unlike the Eaton UltraShiſt automated trans- mission, the Eaton UltraShiſt Plus transmis- sion does not require greasing during vehicle servicing. Th e UltraShiſt Plus transmission has grease zerk locations for lubricating the clutch release bearing and the cross-shaſt bushing of the ECA motor, in addition to the clutch release bearing and the bushing for the shaſt of the ECA motor. Over lubricating these components can contribute to a slipping clutch by getting too much grease into the clutch environment. Th e heavy-duty ECA clutch housing has two grease fi ttings on the lower right side of the clutch housing. Th e upper grease zerk is marked "CS" for the upper cross-shaſt assem- bly, while the lower grease zerk is marked "RB" for the clutch release bearing. (See Figure 1.) Th e cross-shaſt zerk applies grease to the Figure 1 upper cross-shaſt assembly. Apply grease through the zerk until grease purges from the weep hole in the upper cross-shaſt boss. (See Figure 2.) Figure 3 Note: Open the inspection cover so you Figure 2 can observe the purging of the grease from the release bearing and the cross-shaſt weep hole during the greasing procedure. Failure to follow proper clutch lube inter- vals can result in clutch failure. to the clutch release bearing. Apply grease through the zerk until grease purges from the side of the release bearing facing the transmis- sion. (See Figure 3.)
