Brooke Hodge joined the Hammer Museum as its director of exhibition management and publications in 2010 after spending nine years as the curator of architecture and design at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Previously, Hodge was director of exhibitions and publications at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, where she organized numerous exhibitions featuring the work of Gio Ponti, Zaha Hadid and Rei Kawakubo, among others. Hodge writes a biweekly column,"Seeing Things," for The New York Times T Magazine blog. "Even though I'm a cat person, I'm really looking forward to seeing the 'Architecture for Dogs' project." 40 CULTURED Aric Chen, Cultured magazine's newest contributing editor, is a curator and writer specializing in design and architecture. Formerly the creative director of Beijing Design Week, Chen is the new curator of design and architecture for M+, the new museum for visual culture soon to be built in Hong Kong. His writing has appeared publications including The New York Times, Wallpaper*, Architectural Record, Pin-Up and Harvard Design Magazine. "Vito Acconci as Design Miami's Designer of the Year is brilliant and overdue. Vito is a boundary-crosser defiantly swimming upstream, a true radical with a human touch." Meghan Dailey is an editor and writer living in Brooklyn. A former deputy editor of Interview magazine, she has written about art for such publications as Art+Auction, Artforum, Modern Painters, and the Village Voice, among others. In this issue, Dailey interviewed collector George Lindemann and designer Wendell Castle. "It's special when you can hear from the collector and an artist," she says. "Not every assignment is like that." "I'm looking forward to seeing Snarkitecture's entrance pavilion for Design Miami/—giant inflatable tubes!" In 1997, Zesty Meyers founded R Gallery with Evan Snyderman. Through its research, exhibitions and publications, the gallery has resurrected interest in now-iconic designers Verner Panton, Wendell Castle, Greta Magnusson Grossman, Joaquim Tenreiro and Sergio Rodrigues, among others. He is currently working on a major overview of 20th century design in Brazil. "I would have to say a few years ago when I realized that this wasn't just going to be a fair, it was a start of the design gallery movement, and the only place we had to go was up." Jo 1 in
