24 | Overdrive | April 2018 Logbook SP13062_GATS2018_third.indd 1 3/20/18 1:01 PM James P. Lamb, a former small-bro- ker advocate and now head of the Small Business in Transportation Coalition, has agreed to settle a probe into his business deal- ings brought by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, which accused Lamb and several of his businesses of cheating owner-operators out of millions of dollars over several years. Lamb denies the charges but said he agreed to settle, calling the FTC's action a "nuisance suit." Uliana Bogash, a business associate of Lamb's, and Bogash's Excelsior Enterprises International will pay $900,000 to end the FTC's litiga- tion. Lamb says he also has closed his countersuit against the FTC. In a lengthy statement posted to LinkedIn, to which Lamb re- ferred Overdrive after querying him for comment, Lamb says FTC's suit was a "hit job," adding "there is nothing inherently illegal about aggressive sales tactics." FTC accused Lamb and Bogash of using their businesses – DOT- authority.com lings. com, Excelsior and JPL Enterprises International – to defraud own- er-operators. FTC claims Lamb, Bogash and their enterprises would pretend to be aliated with the U.S. Department of Transportation or state agencies and trick own- er-operators into paying unneces- sary registration fees, which they pocketed. – Overdrive LAMB AND ASSOCIATE TO PAY $900K TO SETTLE SCAMMING CLAIMS April 27-29: 75 Chrome Shop Truck Show, Wild- wood, Florida May 4-5: Midwest Pride In Your Ride Truck and Tractor Show, Tri-State Raceway, Earlville, Iowa May 4-6: American Truck Historical Society South- ern California Chapter Truck Show and Swap Meet, Orange Empire Railway Museum, Perris, California May 10-12: Kenly 95 East Coast Truckers Jamboree, Kenly, North Carolina May 13: Mother's Day Con- voy for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Lancaster, Pennsylvania May 31-June 2: American Truck Historical Society National Convention and Truck Show, Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, Kentucky May 31-June 3: Wheel Jam Truck Show, South Dakota State Fairgrounds, Huron, South Dakota June 8-9: Buckeye Invita- tional Truck Show, Clarke County Fairgrounds, Springfield, Ohio June 9: American Truck Historical Society South- east Iowa Chapter Truck Show, Greater Ottumwa Park and Campground, Ottumwa, Iowa June 10-12: National Motor Freight Traffic Association Member Meeting, Embassy Suites Old Town Alexandria, Alexandria, Virginia June 14-16: 36th annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs Truck Beauty Contest, White's Travel Center, Raphine, Virginia June 22-24: Great Lakes Truck Show, Cabela's, Dundee, Michigan July 8: American Truck Historical Society Central NY Chapter Truck Show, Longbranch Park, Liver- pool, New York July 12-14: 39th annual Walcott Truckers Jambo- ree, Iowa 80 Truckstop, Walcott, Iowa July 12-14: Gulf Coast Big Rig Truck Show, Missis- sippi Gulf Coast Coliseum & Convention Center, Biloxi, Mississippi July 21: American Truck Historical Society Central Coast Chapter Cooler Truck Show, Nipomo High School, Nipomo, California Aug. 24-26: Great American Trucking Show, Dallas Sept. 8: American Truck Historical Society Rocky Mountain Chapter Truck Show, Art Robinson Transport Museum, Salina, Utah Sept. 9-13: National Truck Driver Appreciation Week Sept. 13-15: Richard Crane Memorial Truck Show, St. Ignace, Michigan Sept. 14-16: American Truck Historical Society LaGrange Engine Show and Northeast Ohio Chap- ter Show, Lorain County Fairgrounds, Wellington, Ohio CALENDAR
