DRIVER'S DIGEST 8 I magine walking into a grocery store, just needing to buy the staples—milk, eggs, and bread. As you walk down the aisles, you see all the shelves are completely empty, and everyone is in a panic! "People forget that the products we use every single day are delivered by a driver. Drivers are the lifeblood of our industry, and they are often forgotten." says John Fritzius, general manager of Motor Carrier Services. Motor Carrier Services began in the mid 1970s by Lois and Harold Tuttle. Since the beginning, MCS has realized the importance of having happy drivers in their fleet. Today, the company is still family owned by their grandson Keith, who has been the President of MCS since 1986. He believes more than ever that driver's need the respect they deserve. Fast forward several decades. Today, MCS is a 110-truck fleet serving the Northeast region of the United States whose primary business is the beverage industry. "Drivers are the lifeblood of our industry," he says. and quality of Volvo trucks, they currently have 60 percent Volvo trucks, and hope to have 85 percent by the end of the year. Fritzius says, "Our drivers' opinions matter most to us. They have stepped up and said that they prefer to drive a Volvo over any other truck. The drivers love the Volvo's ride, the quietness, the comfort, the field of vision, and the safety. " "Our drivers are our most important asset to our company, they are the ones that sit in the seat 11 hours a day, and they deserve the best trucks out there," says Fritzius.
