Canadian Rockies Pre-Convention Tour October 7- 9, 2013 Latin America: The economies in Latin America decelerated notably during 2012. In particular, Brazil led by weaker export demand and lower prices of non-food commodities in the region's exports. For the region as a whole, GDP growth is forecast to average 3.9 percent compared with a 3.2 percent growth in 2012. United States: In the U.S., the economy weakened notably during 2012, and growth prospects for 2013 remain sluggish. Most economists agree that the lingering uncertainties about the fiscal stance continue to hold back medium- to long-term business investments. On the up side, the beleaguered housing sector is showing some signs of recovery, the natural gas boom, record corporate profit margins, friendlier credit markets for small businesses, along with increased demand for big discretionary items, such as autos, could in combination unleash hiring and faster growth needed to mend many of the economic problems afflicting the U.S. economy during the last few years.
