National President's Message Dear Members of the National Catholic Society of Foresters, Let the light of Jesus shine The Christmas season is coming to an end with the Baptism of Jesus on January 14th. Christmas is the time of year; we get together with families and friends to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Sometimes we get caught up in the material aspects of the season. We need to be reminded that it is all because of this lovely infant that is lying in the manger. The Three Kings came on January 6th to bring gifts and to show homage. What gifts did you bring to the new born king? A childhood song that my family still sings is called "The Friendly Beast". In the song the cow gives the new born child her hay to pillow His head. The Sheep gives wool, for a blanket warm. The Donkey carried His mother safely to Bethlehem. The Doves coo Him to sleep so He would not cry. If the animals can give gifts, can't we? In my local parish in Iowa, Father gave a wonderful reflection, on the gifts the Kings presented to Jesus. The gold was presented to Christ the King: "Gold" is our time, talent and treasure, these gifts we can utilize in our parish and communities. Frankincense was presented to Christ the King. Our "frankincense" is prayer. Prayer is talking and listening to God. Like the smoke of burning incense, our prayers rise up to God. Like the smell of incense, God's grace comes down to 2 us. The myrrh, or embalming fluid, was presented to Christ, the One who would be crucified and buried. Our "myrrh" is penance. Penance is discipline and selfdenial. With receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly, we open ourselves up to receive God's love and mercy. Give the gift of your whole self to Jesus. When we by faith decide to love the Lord with all our hearts, all our souls, all our strength, and our minds, we will walk in the light of Jesus. Jesus is the Light; let the light of Jesus shine through you. Merry Christmas to you all!!! Annuity Rates As of January 1st 2013 we have new annuity rates. A seven year over $25,000 will have an interest rate of 3.00%, and a ten year over $25,000 will have an interest rate of 3.50% for the first year. You may start an annuity with as little as $300.00 with an interest rate of 2.00% for the first year. More information about these rates can be found on page 23. Insure Yor Love Give the gift of your whole self to Jesus. ... Jesus is the Light; let the light of Jesus shine through you. February is "Insure Your Love" month. Most of us have enough life insurance to cover funeral expenses, but what about your house and, or your car. If something happens to your loved one, will you be secure? Think about it, does your family need more protection? continued on page 4 National Catholic Forester
