T he hum of conversation and jingle of laughter hang thick in the summer air at Linda Christensen and Jack Miller's plantation-style Verona farmstead. Family and friends chat at tables striped in red and white, while kids toss around the old pigskin in a light-hearted football game, waiting for one of the evening's many highlights—the shrimp boil feast. As the sun sets, the gang gathers in hay wagons, outfitted in star-spangled bunting, and rides to a nearby pond where fireworks boom overhead. It's a scene that's played out on Christensen and Miller's farm for the past decade. With help from Sarah Sarbacker and Andrea VandeBerg of Cherry Blossom Events, the couple has boosted their backyard picnic's 10-year tradition into a new decade of Americana-style downhome celebrations. 44 BRAVA Magazine July 2013
