JHD 2013 Join Hands Day was May 4, 2013 TOP FIVE JOIN HANDS DAY IDEAS! JOIN HANDS DAY experts have reviewed top projects from the last several years and have come up with 50 great project ideas! http://fraternalalliance.org/join-hands-day/ project-ideas/ Below are the TOP FIVE: 1. Repair bicycles to give disadvantaged children and teach them bicycle maintenance. 2.Collect chairs of various shapes and sizes, artistically paint them and auction for a worthy cause. 3. Collect children's books to give to disadvantaged children. Consider sorting into themes, decorating theme book areas, dressing in appropriate costumes and developing suitable games. 4. Repair gravestones and improve landscaping in a cemetery. Document historic grave sites. 5.Connect with a builders' association to help refurbish a group home 28 JOIN HANDS DAY is the only national volunteer day on the Seasons of Service calendar that specifically targets and develops relationships between young people and adults through neighborhood volunteering. Youths and adults work together on an equal basis to plan, organize and implement the day's activities. Building relationships across generations restores confidence, trust, and respect for each other and creates a sense of community. The following NCSF courts participated: St. Mary Magdalene Court 117, Mantador, ND St. Rita Court 622, Iowa City, IA Holy Cross Court 644, Ipswich, SD St. Mary Court 657, Fort Atkinson, IA St. Catherine Court 693, Redwood Falls, MN Our Lady of Perpetual Help Court 883, Breda, IA St. Cecelia Court 955, Madison, WI St. Genevieve Court 1003, Wahpeton, ND St. Mary Magdalene Court 117 joined hands with the Altar Society of Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church. Court 117 helped with their annual church dinner by providing brownies and ice cream sundaes. Our smiling members put the brownies into cups and added ice cream plus personally served guests at their tables. Top picture, l-r: Krissandra Pohl and Tracy Jentz. Bottom picture: Jo Mertes, Memory Mauch and Jeanne Lugert. St. Rita Court 622 joined hands with St. Wenceslaus Rosary Society to conduct a bingo party for the local nursing home. Holy Cross Court 644 joined with the local nursing home, Golden Living Center. Court 644 brought cookies, bars and more! These yummy treats were served to the residents for lunch and snack breaks. St. Mary Court 657 joined with the Legion Post 672, American Auxiliary Unit 672 and St. John's Parishioners to clean gravestones and rake leaves.
