technology Rand McNally's low-cost ELD released R Text INFO to 205-289-3554 or visit www.ccjdigital.com/info and McNally released its HD 100 Electronic Logging Device to retail outlets, primarily truckstops. The company announced it was developing the low-cost mobile system in October 2012. Drivers that own Rand McNally's IntelliRoute TND 720 truck-specific navigation system can add electronic logging, state-by-state mileage reporting and electronic vehicle inspection reports by purchasing the HD 100 for $299, which includes six months of wireless service. The HD 100 is a small wallet-sized box that plugs into the vehicle's diagnostics port. Drivers connect the device to a laptop to configure work-specific hours-of-service settings. The device communicates with the TND 720 through Wi-Fi to refresh the driver's logbook and other information automatically on the color touchscreen display. For drivers who want to connect their TND 720 device to a fleet office for integrated messaging, workflow and HOS information, Rand McNally can preconfigure an HD 100 with the fleet's account information for faster implementation. The HD 100 also will be compatible with Android and Apple devices for fleets and drivers that prefer to use smartphones or tablets as the in-cab display instead of the TND 720 device; all functionality of the ELD application, including the driver interface, will be identical. The company plans to release the Apple and Android interface later this year. Workflow is designed to provide drivers with an easy-to-understand trip plan by automating notification to LoadMaster of vehicle arrival and departure and by integrating Rand McNally's navigation. "Today's reality is that fleets must do more with less – fewer staff and less overhead – while managing increasingly complex operations," said Mason Meadows, vice president of transportation products and services. "Workflow strikes at the heart of this issue by simplifying communications between dispatchers and drivers. This ensures compliance with company procedures, improved accuracy of delivery times and ETAs, the elimination of driver calls to dispatch for directions, and ultimately a less stressful day for the driver." Workflow facilitates the flow of information between Rand McNally's TND 760 or TPC 7600 and McLeod's Loadmaster Enterprise. Each Workflow message contains step-by-step trip instructions that the driver can "check" when completed. Other tasks, such as confirming arrival and departure times, are automated and require no interaction from the driver; once the driver arrives at a destination, the information is relayed back to the company in near real time. The Rand McNally devices provide truck-specific navigation between stops as part of the Workflow process. – Aaron Huff
