The 49th annual Society of Municipal Arborists conference marked my transition from intern to alumni of the 2013 SMA internship Program. This exciting event offered valuable networking opportunities to share ideas and experiences, and to match faces to names that have become familiar through emailing and online forums. I was especially pleased to finally meet SMA Intern Program Manager Lance Davisson, who was so helpful and responsive over the duration of the program, from application to completion. It was an honor to have the opportunity to speak about my unforgettable summer intern experience in Bath, Maine where I worked with mentor arborist, Mr. Thomas Hoerth. I've never spoken before such a large audience, and I could not have asked for a more supportive environment. The other interns and crowd of mentors at the conference were so very reassuring that most of my speaking anxiety was replaced with enthusiasm and inspiration. —Heather Reed, SMA 2013 Intern, ISA Incoming President Rachel Barker Certified Arborist The talented class of 2013 SMA Interns! www.urban-forestry.com 19
