THANK YOU! TO OUR PITTSBURGH CONFERENCE SPONSORS ASPLUNDH TREE EXPERT CO. DAVEY RESOURCE GROUP DEEPROOT JRM CHEMICAL INC. From his home, Renton, Washington City Forester Terry Flatley participated in the SMA Conference Livecast. Photo by Terry Flatley THE KEYSTONE CONCEPT THE PITTSBURGH SHADE TREE COMMISSION Alittle plug for the LiveCast: I was really impressed with just how naturally I felt incorporated into the conference. I'm a visual person and admittedly, I don't have the personality to jump up and ask a question at a conference; having the ability to type out and think out a question ahead of time is a huge benefit to me. I especially enjoyed Dr. Donovan's presentation on the link between human health and trees. I hope that because of research like this we'll begin to see more policy aimed at addressing health disparities in urban areas, especially policies utilizing resources as easy to champion as trees. But in 2013, not being able to travel to Pittsburgh, I was able to attend the conference via the Livecast and would definitely consider it again. The audio and video quality was quite good, making the registration fee for the Livecast worth the modest investment, especially in light of the cost of actually being there. That said, I would prefer to be there in person given the benefits that confers in terms of interacting face-to-face with other attendees. I highly recommend this venue to others in the future when they are unable to actually attend in person. Nice job, SMA, and all those that put this together. — Terry Flatley, Certified Arborist - Municipal Specialist, Urban Forestry and Natural Resources Manager, Renton Washington 20 Casey Clapp (left) interned with Columbia, Missouri Natural Resources Supervisor Brett O'Brien.
