Owner-operator Matt Purtee of Omah, Wis.,
says his 1999 Freightliner Classic has 1.8
million miles and still is going strong. The
rig, equipped with a Cummins engine and
13-speed transmission, has a star paint
scheme designed by Purtee and one of his
friends. Purtee, who is leased to Landstar
Systems, has transported equipment for shows,
including "American Idol," "The Price is Right"
and ESPN programs.
Owner-operator Ed Stocklin had been
looking for a vintage rig for years when,
two years ago, his wife discovered a
1946 Dodge on Craigslist.org. The rig
soon joined Stocklin Trucking of Gig
Harbor, Wash. The truck was used to
pull a 30-foot flatbed, but it's currently
not being used. Stocklin plans to rebuild
and refurbish it. "Maybe I'll make it a
hotshot truck," he jokes.

Owner-operator and Oregon Ducks fan
John Starr of Roseburg,
Ore., says team pride
dominates his 2010
Freightliner Cascadia.
The rig, powered by
a Detroit DD15 and
10-speed transmission,
constantly gets attention
from passers-by. "Usually
it's all good … just some
disgruntled 'Bama fans,"
jokes Starr, who is leased
to Gordon Trucking.
