O verdrive Magazine's golden anniversary edi- tion recently named the PACCAR MX Engine one of the Top 50 truck industry technical innovations in the last 50 years. The publication highlighted that the MX was the first in the market with compacted graphite iron (CGI) in both the block and head, as well as recognizing its innovative fractured cap technology in the rod and main bearing caps. Fractured cap technology gives the connecting rod and main bear- ings much more rigid mountings than competitor technologies, thus allowing more torque at a lower rpm. The result is wider torque and power curves for higher operating efficiency. "We're extremely pleased to achieve further recognition and validation for the many innovative qualities engineered into the PACCAR MX engine," says Peterbilt gen- eral manager and PACCAR vice-president Bill Jackson. "Partnered with a variety of our innovative Peterbilt trucks in wide-ranging applications, the combination of a PACCAR MX and a Peterbilt will deliver optimum trucking performance." The PACCAR MX is available in Peterbilt Models 587, 389, 388, 386, 384, 367 and 365. The MX engine has a horsepower range of 380hp- 485hp and torque outputs up to 1,750 lb-ft with a displacement of 12.9 liters. This power range, com- bined with excellent fuel efficiency, high reliability, durability, lightweight design and low cost of ownership makes the MX an ideal choice for both over-the-road and vocational applications. PACCAR's recently opened $400 million engine factory in Columbus, Miss., strengthens its global manufacturing capability and positions the company to capitalize on growing opportunities in North America, Europe, South America and Asia. The new factory complements DAF's modern engine factory in the Netherlands. Both factories utilize skilled technicians, Six Sigma and 5S manufacturing methodologies and cutting-edge production processes like advanced automation and robotics to produce the high- est quality engines in the industry. PACCAR MX Named a Top 50 Innovation "The combination of a PACCAR MX and a Peterbilt will deliver optimum trucking performance." 22 FIRST CLASS Peterbilt News
